Introducing Carter Denim
Kodangs x DEPT – A Contrast in Motion
When music and movement meet material and mood, something timeless happens. This is Carter Denim, reimagined — not just in design, but in expression. For this release, Kodangs collaborated with Thai indie band DEPT, a group known not only for their emotionally rich sound but also for their striking visual identity.
Formed in 2017 out of Mahidol University’s College of Music, @DEPT.DEPT consists of Tiv (vocals), P (guitar), Dan (guitar), and Sub (drums). Their sound blends indie pop, math rock, brit rock, and ambient elements — a layered, melodic style that feels both intimate and expansive. While often categorized as indie pop, their music moves far beyond labels, embracing contrast and experimentation. That same spirit became the foundation of this campaign.
For the shoot, we styled DEPT in two new colorways of Carter Denim: Black and White. The theme was contrast — bold vs. clean, grounded vs. light, rhythm vs. stillness. And to reflect the honesty of their music and our materials, we stripped everything back. The entire campaign — both photo and video — was shot on a single iPhone. No artificial lighting. No heavy production. Just a small crew, natural light, and real movement.
Behind the scenes, it felt more like a jam session than a fashion shoot. There were unplanned guitar riffs, quiet walks between takes, and shared laughter as DEPT explored the space in their own rhythm. The video captures not just what Carter Denim looks like, but what it feels like — worn by artists who live and move with intention.
Carter Black is made from soft stretch-washed denim with matte hardware and signature workwear details like a zippered chest pocket, pen slot, carabiner loop, and cinch-back fit. Worn by @benz_pawat, the look feels sharp yet relaxed — a grounded uniform for quiet confidence.
In contrast, Carter White features a crisp, canvas-like cotton with no stretch, holding its structure with sculptural clarity. Worn by @lukelukelukeeee, the white set feels fresh and intentional, offering a clean silhouette with the same utilitarian DNA.
Together, Black and White speak two moods from the same voice — much like DEPT's music: soft but bold, clean but full of color.
Because at the end of the day, it’s not about what you wear.
It’s how you carry it.
And who you become in it.
